Sex crimes in Tennessee carry serious penalties

Tennessee has stiff penalties if convicted of a sex crime. Common sex crimes and penalties include:

  • Prostitution – Prostitution, and patronizing a prostitute, are both misdemeanors for which the court could impose a sentence for up to six months in jail, a fine of up to $500, or both.
  • Child pornography – At a minimum, it is a felony for which the court could impose between two and twelve years in prison, and a fine of up to $5,000.
  • Sexual battery – A felony for which the court could impose between one and six years in prison and a fine of up to $3,000.
  • Statutory rape – The punishment for statutory rape hinges on the difference between the age of the victim and the age of the defendant. For instance, if victim is 15 years old and the defendant is more than five (but less than ten) years older, the crime is a felony for which the court could impose between one and six years in prison, and a fine of up to $3,000. However, if the victim is at least 13 but the defendant is 10 years older (or more), the court could impose between two and twelve years in prison, a fine of up to $5,000, or both.
  • Aggravated rape – A felony for which the court could impose between fifteen and sixty years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000.

The sex crime charges against you should not be taken lightly. Some people assume  charges are not serious because it is just a “he said, she said” situation. But that fact alone does not mean you will be automatically cleared of charges. Further, a sex crime conviction can result in incarceration, heavy fines, mandatory lifetime sex offender registration, and a permanent criminal record. There is just too much at risk to trust your case to an inexperienced criminal defense attorney. Trust our Murfreesboro sex crimes defense team to provide the hard-hitting defense strategy you need. We work hard, leaving no stone unturned when it comes to your rights, your freedom and your future
